This is a very interesting time for Russian sports bettors as there are a lot of online sportsbooks that will register customers based in Russia.  However, there are some important factors that go into choosing an online sportsbook and these can vary from service to service.  So in the end, it really depends on what matters most to you as an individual.  This site looks at some of the top sportsbooks through the prism of these important variables.

Currency is a very important variable.  With the relatively recent significant drop in the value of the Ruble on international currency markets, some sports betting companies decided to reduce their risk of exposure to it and no longer offer RUB accounts.  As such, you may be wondering which reputable betting sites still offer Russian Ruble sports betting accounts.  When RUB betting is not the most important issue, we show you the best alternatives.  For example, bet365 is such an innovative sportsbook, you may feel their service is worth any currency conversion costs, but only you can decide this for yourself.

Furthermore, since you are here researching in English, you may prefer to have the option to bet in Russian.  Several top sites offer their mobile and desktop sites with Russian language versions and we highlight these.

This focus on the Russian bettor is what this site is all about.  You might notice other review sites that pretend to care about providing consumer information to Russian bettors. Most of them essentially repackage general sportsbook information with bogus ratings or grades without actually touching upon the issues that are vital to understanding the sports betting landscape within Russia.  Read more about our methodology at right and browse the key issues above and throughout the site.

How the list was created:

As general rule most sports betting review sites are built simply to present you with as many brands as possible with logos and banners in the hopes that you will recognize a brand that you know.  Next to these logos you will likely see a 5-star rating or a very high letter grade with no actual justification for this assessment.  These symbols only exist to encourage your play and are essentially of zero value.

While most of the listed brands may be reputable, they will not actually cater very well to the Russian sports bettor as many important factors will not have been taken into account like currency, or banking details.  Furthermore, they may recommend a site that does not even accept Russian based customers.

As you can see from my list, several of the biggest names in the Russian market and names that are large within the global betting market are not listed.  Unlike other sites, I’m not interested in simply trading on a brand that you know.  I want you to play with the betting sites that I truly believe to be best for the Russian bettor.

Each site must satisfy the following criteria:

I have reviewed over 30 of the World’s top sportsbook companies from the perspectives of dozens of different national markets including the Russian perspective.  If  any of these criteria are not sufficiently met, the reviewed sportsbook is not included in my list.  This makes your decision easier.  The decision is black and white with only six top performers, three with RUB accounts and three without.

I’m not here to list every sportsbook, tell you what is wrong with them, and then hope to trade on their brand and logo because they have advertised and are a name you know.

I’m here to show you the best companies with which you may bet from Russia.  My list is in alphabetical order (numbers translated to letters) with no order of preference.  They all provide an excellent experience, but have their differences.  Please read and enjoy responsibly.

The Russian Government is promoting and running its own gambling and betting services

In 2015, the Russian government began to restrict the use of online gambling and sports betting sites through IP restrictions.  Some sportsbook companies have decided to withdraw from Russia as a market to serve, others like those above continue to allow Russian-based player registrations.  The Russian government wants to run its own gambling and sports betting services and thus is hoping to remove freedom of choice for its citizens.  With IP circumvention proving to be a popular technology to ‘get around’ such restrictive methods, Russians will continue to play with international online sportsbooks.

The Russian government has also tried to restrict its citizens from betting online by making it more difficult to move one’s money into a betting account through typical payment methods, like a credit card provider.  The key to being able move one’s money in situations like this is to use an intermediary banking solution like an e-wallet provider so that you are not making payments directly to the sports betting site.  Thus sportsbook banking in Russia is an even more crucial discussion compared to most other countries where sportsbook banking is taken for granted.
